Sam
Lest we Forget....Sept 11"
Meet Sam.. this gentle giant is loyal and gentle to a fault. Sam was rescued by John O, who served with the Fire Dept of NY as a firefighter. He was at the World Trade Center on September 11 & after during cleanup . John retired to Edisto Island SC & had 6 wonderful years with his group of Rescues and they were his children.Sadly, John was diagnosed with Liver Cancer last fall and he passed away in February. His only wish was wonderful homes for 'his children'.
Sam has been lost without 'his person' and was the closest to John and the most sensitive of the group. He is in a wonderful foster home but would thrive with: "His person", love and attention and some parameters set with basic commands...he is so eager to please. John raised Sam from the time he was a wee pup and was found under an abandoned trailer near Charleston SC.. He grew, then he grew, a little bit more and he's a big boy with so much love to give.
He appears to be a Lab/greyhound mix, 5 years young ,weighs 108 pounds and misses his runs on the beach and happier times spent with Pirate, Ringo, Sootie and Roscoe. His energy level is medium, he loves playing with other dogs regardless of their size, but also content to curl up next to his person. No cats please. He would do best in a home with a fenced in yard, older children over 10 due to his size and someone who has the time to dedicate to this kind soul. John spoiled him terribly. He walks beautifully on a leash with a halti and loves his afternoon walks with his Foster Mom .. Sam would do beautifully with a basic obedience class for both his new family and the bonding process.... he is so eager to please. If you say "ride", the engine better be running, he's ready to go. He's totally housebroken, neutered, up to date on heartworm and flea preventative. Applicants should reside within 300 mile radius of Charleston SC.
